Rotoroa

Rotoroa

Rotorua is one of New Zealand's most popular places. Located in the north island, Rotorua is a very different city. It is full of geothermal activity everywhere. There is the strong smell of sulphur in the air, and there are various geysers, acrid-smelling mud pools, and warm geothermal pools and ponds just about everywhere. Rotorua is located on a volcanic plateau which accounts for most of the central north island. Even through the street vents you can see steam coming from the group on residential streets. It's really a sight to see. The city also has some incredible hot spring spas.

Rotoroa is also the main homeland for Maori Culture. There is a deep sense of history and proudness of the maori culture that is very amazing. I felt honored to learn as much as I did about the culture in the short amount of time I was there. I was able to go to a Hongi/Maori reinacted festival and visit the Maori village of Whakarewarewa which was great. I definitely want to go back!
