Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is located in San Mateo county and is 28 miles south of San Francisco. It is a secluded beach type town and is known for it's surfing and it's floral industry. Floral Industry? Yes.. I was surprised to learn that this little town is one of the largest floral suppliers in America. (They ship a million Easter lilies each year). Half Moon Bay is also a surf town famous for it's big wave surf spot, 'Mavericks'. Considered one of the most challenging big waves in the world, Mavericks breaks in an open ocean setting nearly a half-mile from shore. It was a little cold and cloudy when I went, and the waves were pretty small. However, this is a great beach town with friendly locals, and it's only 15 minutes from San Francisco. It makes for a great weekend trip. Click to see more.... |
