Why Travel?

I used to ask myself that question. Now, many trips later, I don't anymore. To me, travel is an essential part of life. Travelling opened up a new world for me. There were so many things I was very unaware of before; Daily global events I was not hearing about in the news, certain political situations, etc. I try to learn as much as I can about a country while I am there. I love meeting new people, learning about new cultures, and experiencing those 'new' moments. What better way to learn about our differences but through travel and meeting new people? Although I haven't travelled to nearly as many countries as I would have liked, I hope that someday I can say I've seen most of the world.

My love for travel began at an early age. Yearly family road trips were important in my family. My dad firmly believed in having us travel to places he never got to go when he was young. Thanks to him, I was able to see a lot of the U.S. at a really young age. Today, I try and visit a few new places a year. I guess 'why' I travel is irrelevant. I just love it, so I try and do it as much as possible. I just can't explain that 'giddy' feeling that I get as I prepare to head out on another trip; whether it's a road trip, a weekend getaway, or a trip overseas. I love that excited feeling. To me, that is what life is all about. As I head out of my home, my everyday life, I feel happy. It's not often in life that one truely feels happy doing something that they love to do. The thing that 'home' gives you: routine, security, comfort, normalcy, they have their place too. They give me a sense of perspective. However, all the attributes of life away from home: the new experience, the discomfort, the uncertainty, and excitement; they complete the perspective. And so I travel. Or I try to as much as I can. I procrastinate, I make excuses. I'm only human. One thing is for sure. I need to go on another trip soon!

This site first started out as a way to communicate to family and friends when I backpacked in the South Pacific region a few years ago, and now it's become a bit of a hobby. I liked the idea of having a personal travel site to remember, so I will try and keep it up a little longer. If there are missing links, please let me know. If your reading this, thanks for stopping by and letting me share. Thanks for all the emails, I've met so many great people since creating this site. Please feel free to drop me a line and say hi. I'd love to hear about your travel experiences. Email : jennigrl@earthlink.net Oh,and please feel free to sign the guestbook. Thanks! XO Jen
